As you may have heard, there is a difficult leadership crisis happening at Dhamma Dena that is endangering the center's focus on BIPOC, queer and disability justice practice. In many ways, the center is thriving and the vision around that focus has blossomed in recent years with more BIPOC teachers and students than ever before, a shift to being entirely dana-based and removing obstacles to participation that fees can create.
However, three people have taken control of the board who are undermining staff leadership, endangering programming, and showing unwillingness to collaborate with the vibrant sangha that the center's liberatory vision has created.
There was a community meeting about this crisis earlier in the summer, at which board members showed defensiveness, were asked to agree to open the board to two new members, and later refused to do that and announced the board was closed.
I am writing to ask that you attend a next meeting focused on updates and action steps August 6 at 5pm Pacific.
I also ask that you sign up to get updates on this email list. Now is the moment for all hands on deck to save this beloved space.
